Resource or Project Abstract

*** Small-scale Study report - see Supplemental Information (below) ***

The Statutory Instrument (SI) 378 of 2006 gives recommendations of nutrient input for a range of horticultural and agricultural crops. The recommended rates of phosphorus (P) are based on a soil phosphorous test. The availability of phosphorus from pig, poultry, cattle and other livestock manure, spent mushroom compost are accepted as from inorganic fertiliser (superphosphate). The SI has given the availability of phosphorus from compost the same availability of phosphorus from cattle manure. However, there is a possibility of special derogation if data can be provided regarding release rate from compost. This report reviews literature and has determined the release rate of
phosphorus from compost.
