Resource or Project Abstract
This dataset consists of drinking water monitoring results and water supply details reported annually to the EPA by water services authorities in accordance with the Drinking Water Regulations for the year 2018. There are 48 parameters monitored under the regulations, including E. coli, coliform bacteria, pH, ammonium, conductivity, turbidity, taste, odour and colour. The information on water supplies includes population served, volume, source type and treatment. The data is organised by year and by local authority. Each local authority data is presented in a separate ZIP file.
The data are presented on Excel Spreadsheet files. For each local authority for 2017 there are five files. These files contain:
The list of exceedances of the parametric value (limit) set in the Drinking Water Regulations
The list of compliance monitoring results
The shortfall in monitoring
Details of the water supply - population served, volume, source type and treatment etc.
The percentage compliance of all supplies with all parameters.
This dataset has been made openly available to all public access. Please read below regarding citation for further usage of the data.
The results and data are provided in Microsoft Excel XLS file format.
There are 31 zip files available. The approximate size of each zip file is less than 1 MB. Some of the files might be a little larger than 1MB. Once you download one zip file and confirm the download details you will be provided with a direct quick download to all remaining files.
Most computers, tables and smart devices will have the required software to download, open and view these files. Any Office package and ZIP archive software tool will do this job sufficiently, if they are not already installed.

Supplementary Information About This Resource
In this section some supplementary information about this resource is outlined. Lineage information helps us to understand why this project was carried out, what policy or research requirements did it fulfil, etc. Lineage is important in understanding the rationale behind the carrying out of a project or the collection of a specific dataset etc. Links to web sites, applications, papers, etc are outlined to provide you with additional information or supplementary reading about the project or dataset
Lineage information about this project or dataset |
These datasets are produced in accordance with Section 58 of the EPA Act, 1992 and to assess compliance with the Drinking Water Regulations, 2007. The links below provide access to several other resources containing drinking water datasets for other years before 2018 |
Supplementary Information |
The entire dataset is organised into separate folders for each water services authority. Each folder contains multiple files. However for ease of download these have been converted to a ZIP file format. Almost every computer should have software installed to open ZIP files - however there are many freely available ZIP file software packages including WinZip (http://www.winzip.com/)
and the free and open source 7Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/). The drinking water data files are in Microsoft Excel File format (.xls). You will need Microsoft Excel installed on your computer to open and view these files. If you do not have Microsoft Excel you can use the free and open source Office alternative Libre Office (http://www.libreoffice.org/download/) which can open and view these files. As stated above ANY queries regarding the data and information contained in these datasets should be directed to the contact point above (info@epa.ie) and not to the ERC or SAFER. |
