Resource or Project Abstract

The dataset created in this project used a hierarchial decision tree process to amalgamate various source maps such as CORINE 1990, the General Soil Map of Ireland and the Peatland map of Ireland resulting in the Derived Irish Peat Map. This is a GIS based map of the extent of peat in Ireland. Associated with the DIPM there is a dataset containing various attributes that were used in the classification of the DIPM.

Supplementary Information About This Resource

In this section some supplementary information about this resource is outlined. Lineage information helps us to understand why this project was carried out, what policy or research requirements did it fulfil, etc. Lineage is important in understanding the rationale behind the carrying out of a project or the collection of a specific dataset etc. Links to web sites, applications, papers, etc are outlined to provide you with additional information or supplementary reading about the project or dataset

Lineage information about this project or dataset
The last time that peatlands in Ireland were specifically mapped was in the mid 1970s. There was a need to have a more accurate representation of the extent of peatlands to estimate the carbon flux from peatland.
Supplementary Information
The dataset was updated in 2007
