Resource or Project Abstract
The project deployed passive sensors in rivers at sites with existing high resolution water quality and water quantity stations. Nutrients (N and P) extracted from the sensors along with calculations of the mass lost of a tracer salt were hypothesised to be synonymous with flow-weighted mean nutrient concentrations over the period of deployment. The data sets include raw sensor data as pdf files as outputted from the sensor labs and Excel files of sensor concentrations versus those flow-weighted mean concentrations measured at river sites using the high resolution equipment.

The International Phosphorus Workshop 5, in Silkeborg, Denmark hosted a presentation by Sorbisense. The product offered a solution to an elusive problem in nutrient hydrochemistry, 'how to provide low cost, space and data rich information on nutrient fluxes in rivers'. As Irish workers were undertaking high resolution monitoring of nutrient fluxes in rivers (high cost, data rich but space poor), it was deemed an ideal opportunity to validate the sensors in Irish river conditions at the high resolution stations. This idea was presented at Environ 2008 in Dundalk prior to the application to STRIVE. |
