Resource or Project Abstract
The aim of this research was to test and roll out blueprint research on a community and in so doing to disseminate the EF-EAC (Ecological Footprint-Environmental Action Campaign) method and its learning. This report outlines the method used and presents the carbon-consumption scrutiny and benchmarking of the community of Killaloe, County Clare. The emissions associated with domestic lifestyles were calculated for the Killaoe community and low carbon solutions were generated, negotiated and re-interpreted within the school and community environments engendering ownership of this measurement and intervention endeavour. An Environmental Action Campaign (EAC) followed the Ecological Footprint (EF) measurement in which low carbon literature and advice were generated within the community environment. EAC outreach material was disseminated to all households. The blueprint research has previously supported the lowering of consumption related emissions significantly and this underlines the benefit to communities of the creation of a carbon exchange/market. Such an exchange could represent the carbon interests of communities and sell carbon reductions or credits to corporate or public entities providing mutual benefits and much needed local scale funding for social, economic and environmental betterment. The success of the project, its policy implications and suggestions for future work are discussed within this report.

In this section some supplementary information about this resource is outlined. Lineage information helps us to understand why this project was carried out, what policy or research requirements did it fulfil, etc. Lineage is important in understanding the rationale behind the carrying out of a project or the collection of a specific dataset etc. Links to web sites, applications, papers, etc are outlined to provide you with additional information or supplementary reading about the project or dataset
Lineage information about this project or dataset |
The research tests a blueprint method established in another community and aims to establish its potential for transferability. In so doing it demonstrates the capacity for communities to reduce their emissions and consumption levels in a relatively autonomous way. |
