Resource or Project Abstract

Tide level data were collected in Lough Hyne and Barloge Creek to aid development of a 2-dimensional, depth-averaged hydrodynamic model of water movement in Lough Hyne. The model successfully predicted the unique asymmetrical tides at the lough and generated realistic predictions of current speeds around the reserve. Flushing time, defined as the time taken for the total mass of material within the lough to be reduced to a factor of e-1 (i.e. 0.37) of its original mass , was calculated at 15 days, although complete tidal flushing of the bay took approximately 80 days
