Resource or Project Abstract

The Integrated Modelling Project Ireland (IMPI) has focused on the development and application of analytical capabilities in respect of climate and transboundary air pollution modelling and policy. The developed capacities include methodological and technical developments for multi-sectoral emissions, costs, policy and effects analysis, as well as the intellectual capital, contacts and experience necessary for effective applied use of these tools and their derived outputs.

Supplementary Information About This Resource

In this section some supplementary information about this resource is outlined. Lineage information helps us to understand why this project was carried out, what policy or research requirements did it fulfil, etc. Lineage is important in understanding the rationale behind the carrying out of a project or the collection of a specific dataset etc. Links to web sites, applications, papers, etc are outlined to provide you with additional information or supplementary reading about the project or dataset

Lineage information about this project or dataset
This project has some lineage to a research fellowship led by Dr. Andrew Kelly in 2005-2007. The need for the project arose from a lack of national expertise and engagement with the technical modelling process behind the establishment and monitoring of both tranboundary air pollution targets, and selected climate objectives in a European and UNECE context.
Supplementary Information
The key outputs of the project were the development of national GAINS and TREMOVE modelling capacities, regular engagement in the international forums related to the European and UNECE modelling work that underpins related climate and air policy, and provision of policy support and technical outputs nationally and internationally throughout.

The team benefited from direct and sustained engagement with many individuals from Government Departments (re: Agricutlure, Environment, Transport, Energy), from Government Agency staff in SEAI and of course the EPA. And from a host of international colleagues at IIASA, and within the UNECE Task Force on Integrated Assessment Modelling and the Network for Integrated Assessment Modelling

Final reports, methodological briefs and papers will be uploaded. In regard to data sets, the data scenarios for GAINS are not meaningful outside of the model structure (which is licensed) and therefore these iterative scenarios remain hosted in the central modelling system.

GIS was used as part of a project paper analysing road transport. Specifically the characterisitcs of roads and their impact upon car purchase choice.
