Resource or Project Abstract
This desk based study collated a growing body of international research on hemp lime and its increasing application in construction including a review of demonstration projects in the France, UK and Ireland. The collated data was summarised in terms of it key material properties, testing methods, environmental properties and its performance in construction was compared to relevant standards and reguirements, in terms of structure, fire, acoustic, moisture, materials and thermal performance.

Supplementary Information About This Resource
In this section some supplementary information about this resource is outlined. Lineage information helps us to understand why this project was carried out, what policy or research requirements did it fulfil, etc. Lineage is important in understanding the rationale behind the carrying out of a project or the collection of a specific dataset etc. Links to web sites, applications, papers, etc are outlined to provide you with additional information or supplementary reading about the project or dataset
Lineage information about this project or dataset |
The project was proposed by Patrick Daly BESRaC, (who has a background in building technology), in 2009 following some self directed study he had done at masters level into hemp lime and general interest in the area. An application for STRIVE funding was made in 2009 and following shortlisting was eventually approved to commence in 2010. |
Supplementary Information |
Key outputs from the project include the main EPA report, a 6 page information brochure on hemp lime, and a range of technical data sheets compiled during the collation and comparison of data. In addition there has been a conference poster, a conference paper is in draft, a magazine article is due to be published and a seminar presentation has been made with more to follow.
The project initiator is considering follow up projects including developing a potential LIFE + application for a demonstration project. |
