Resource or Project Abstract
The project investigated separately the issues associated with, and measures arising from, the three pillars of energy policy - namely cost competitiveness, security of supply and environmental responsibility. The project assessed the interactions, conflicts, potential conflicts, complementarities and resulting impacts of these on the National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) measures targeting the electricity sector.

Lineage information about this project or dataset |
The thesis underpinning this research project is that it is not possible to deliver on the National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) unless conflicts between the energy policy objectives and the NCCS measures are resolved. The project took place during a time when there were significant developments in energy and climate policy: namely the implementation of the EU Emissions Trading scheme, a change away from emission reduction measures solely within Ireland, moratorium placed by the Commission of Energy Regulation. |
