Resource or Project Abstract

This dataset relates to the quality of water running of major highway surfaces in Ireland. It has two levels of detail. The first level, corresponding to a scoping study, measured basic water and sediment parameters (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Nitrates, Phosphates, Sp. Cond., Total Alkalinity) at 14 sites. The second level acquired all of the data listed above at three sites that were selected for detailed analysis. The parameters were measured for a number of storm events (numbers vary depending on site).

Geographical and Spatial Information Related To This Resource

Description of Geographical Characteristics of This Project or Dataset
Data was measured at a large number of sampling sites. A small number of the parameters were measured at all sites. A small number of sites (3) were selected for detailed investigation and most of the parameters were measured at these sites. Much of the data was measured at specific times associated with significant runoff events. The sites all lie within a bounding box that extends northwards and westwards as far as Sligo, eastwards as far as the east coast of Ireland and Southwards as far as Greystones. It includes sites on the M1, M4, M50, N4, N11 and N59.
