Resource or Project Abstract
The main objectives of these measurements are to analyse any trend in ozone precursors, to check the consistency of emission inventories and to help attribute emission sources to pollution concentration.
An additional aim is to support the understanding of ozone formation and precursor dispersion processes, as well as the application of photochemical models.

| CAFE Directive 2008/50/EC requires member states to monitor volatile organic compound ozone precursors.
Eight of these: (Benzene,Toluene,Ethylbenzene,m+p xylene,o-xylene,isoprene,1,2,3-TMB,1,3,5-TMB,1,2,4-TMB) are measured at the Rathmines monitoring station in Dublin. Toluene was often monitored separately at various trailer sites. There are no limits for these compounds in the legislation. |

| Precursors are measured using an automated GC-MS.
FILENAME CONVENTION: To intuitively guide users on the data contained in each of the dataset files the FILENAMES shown abide by a simple convention. The first part of the filename corresponds to the station location where the monitoring took place, the second refers to the pollutant measured. The third part of the filename corresponds to the year of measurement. For datasets which contain data measured over two years rather than one the year provided includes the year when measurement commented at that station site. If measurement data was collected at using a mobile monitoring station the code TR will follow the pollutant name. FILE TYPES: For the most part files will be available in one of three different formats. MS Excel spreadsheet format (look for the XLS file name), Comma Separated formats (CSV file type), or plain text (TXT file type). The latter two will open in recent versions of MS Excel. |
